Evaluation. Trey Taylor

Question 1:

Our thriller evaluation challenges the modern convention of a thriller by going back to basics. Our thriller takes main influence from "The Usual Suspects". The film starts at the end and that's what we decided to do. We did a very low-budget movie introduction that required little equipment.

The fact they you can scarcely see my face creates enigma as to who am I. We also did the same at the start with Patrick to create more of an illusion as to our characters. We also had binomial oppositions (Patrick and I), just like many other films. However, We use a physical display, Patrick dressed darkly and roughly whereas I dressed neatly and brightly. We also displayed it via camera angles, when it was a POV shot from my perspective, it was a low angle and from lower than Patrick. This displays a element of power which is traditional and conventional to modern thrillers.

Match on action, the same(ish) as the Usual Suspect pulling of the gun.

A Follow up of the match on action

Not revealing the identity. influenced by The Usual Suspects.
Keeping the antagonists identity.
Not clear what's going on, creates enigma.
The establishing shot. Unlike The Usual Suspects first, we showed ours first.
Continuing with the theme of enigma.

Continuing with the theme of shadows and the concealment of identity.

This screen grab demonstrates what i was saying earlier about the power roles displayed via camera.

Question 2:

Our thriller displays a scarce amount of groups because we didn't entirely focus on one or more groups. However, because all of our cast were male it could display a gender stereotype and traditional role of male in power. However, our thriller uses a male victim which contradicts the norm of the female victim.

The male lead antagonist wears very dark and dominant clothing which show power as well as low-key lighting which displays a dark atmosphere.

I used Google to search stereotypical criminal males. They all wear dark clothing and have a sense of power as did Patrick in our thriller.

We didn't display anything on: Ability/disability, Age, Sexual orientation

We tried to make the audience more sympathetic for the victim as opposed to the villain, but other than that we didn't really play with stereotypes.

Question 3:

Due to the fact that our movie is a low-budget film we don't have much money to splash out. If anything I think YouTube would be the best and most profitable idea for it is free to upload and if we draw enough attention via free social networks (such as Facebook, Twitter and Google+) and if we have enough movie hits then YouTube will give us the option to implicate ads into our movie which would generate revenue.

Question 4:
The audience we aimed our thriller at are 15 to 21 year old males. It is more for friends than couples so we don't expect too much female attention. Because of our low production value and low-budget we expect to see a working class audience who might not mind the low quality as opposed to classes above who intend to watch a film with high production.

Question 5:

Patrick kindly did research by posting our clip on social networks. Here is our feedback:

"Liked the soundtrack used during the opening scene. Liked how the camera wasn't showing the identity of the villains to bring mystery, I also liked the scene where you punched the guy in that building where it's dark which makes it sinister and spooky. Overall it was a good film I would just work on more shots and more lighting during the interrogation since you could see the main character a little bit but it still made its point "

"Overall I thought that the opening was good, I think the mystery guy made me more curios while watching the movie and wondered who he was so that was smart to not show his face during the whole film to bring enigma to us. If I would redo this film, I would say work more on the syncing and edits of ore shots really but overall it was good to watch ."

Question 6:

I have learnt more with a camera than I did before. I have a mediocre knowledge of the camera but thanks to the production side of my course my knowledge has strengthened such as how to set white balance properly and make the video quality look good. I had knowledge of Blogger before so I hadn't learnt much due to this, I learnt to edit using Final Cut Pro on Mac's, I have never had experience on an Apple product and from this I learnt how to edit, my editing skills aren't amazing but I have learnt how to apply effects and titles. I find the Apple Mac's UI to be something of a troublesome task, and how it handles tasks in my opinion is a bit baffling so I struggled learning how to edit using a Mac.

Question 7:

In my preliminary task we all learnt the fundamentals and I feel that we applied them well in our preliminary task and I feel we have developed our ideas further as we ventured into our main task. We did well to explore various techniques to aid us in our production. I feel we defiantly explored camera techniques and tried to vary away from clique camera work and used alternative ways of filming our product.
